Research Survey: Free & Open Source Software in the Arab World

Knowledge, usage, and needs

This research is conducted by the regional research team affiliated with the Access to Knowledge for Development Center (A2K4D) at the School of Business of the American University in Cairo, in collaboration with Ma3bar, the Arab Support Center for Free & Open Source Software at the University of Balamand, Al-Kurah, Lebanon. It aims at

  1. understanding the level of awareness on FOSS in the various Arab societies, and identifying the type of awareness needed and the corresponding target groups,
  2. understanding the current usage and availability of FOSS and related training and support, and
  3. understanding the various Arab community needs for ICT in general, and how FOSS would contribute to development in these communities.

Your decision to participate in this research is completely voluntary; however, we sincerely hope that you would agree to fill this questionnaire, which should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

A final report on the outcome of the research is planned for July 2012.

Confidentiality statement: This research project guarantees respondent confidentiality. Personal information and raw data in this questionnaire will not be reported in any way. We shall hold as privileged and confidential all information that might identify a respondent with his or her responses. All data will be used in a form that will make it impossible to determine the identity of the individual responses.
